Hello September!!!

One of the most enchanting aspects of September is the visible transformation of the scenery.  As the days become shorter and temperatures begin to drop, a vibrant tapestry of colour begins to unravel across the landscape as the lush green foliage of summer gives way to the rusts and golds of autumn.  Most of the crops have now been harvested and the fields and orchards are bursting with fruits and vegetables, just waiting to be eaten fresh or preserved and pickled.

It is important to prepare for the colder months ahead by embracing healthy habits that support our overall wellbeing.  September is the perfect month to get active outside.  Walking in nature is one of the easiest ways to exercise, and it is free.  Not only is it excellent for physical health but walking in the countryside has been proven to enhance mental wellbeing by reducing stress and increasing mindfulness.  Painters Forstal has the wonderful Lorenden Park, a historic country park, that offers plenty to stimulate the senses.  With the ancient trees and local wildlife, it is the perfect place to admire the arrival of autumn.

September is also a great month to indulge in nutritious and delicious seasonal produce.  The vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in local fruits and vegetables can help boost your immune system and keep you feeling your best.  Next month the hall is hosting an Autumn Wellness Workshop with the marvellous herbalist Mandy Rickard, known on social media as millymolly_herbalist.  During this workshop Mandy will talk about the vegetables and herbs we can easily get, gather or grow ourselves to support and strengthen our immune system. We’ll then settle down to chop, grate and prepare a delicious tonic to spice up salads, dinners, circulation and, most importantly, immunity! Known as fire cider, this spicy tonic is actually alcohol free and a great addition to your store cupboard. You will take home the tonic, plus a detailed handout containing simple instructions for how to strain and finish off at home once it’s ready. There are so many ways to fight off viruses, keep warm and healthy, and we want to show you some of the really tasty ones.  That is why Painters Forstal Community Hall is the Hall For All Seasons.

Keep an eye on our website and social media for more details.
